Chapter 10: To Disappear or Not Disappear?

Conventional Teaching

For those of us who do believe in a Rapture it has often been taught that when the Rapture occurs all believers, and the children of believers, will simply disappear. This is what I have believed for many years myself. However, in this chapter I am going to look at two possibilities. First, I will look at what the Scripture says about all believers disappearing at the Rapture. I will show you passages that might suggest this to be true. But, I am also going to examine the theory that instead of disappearing, all believers will simply fall “dead” right where they are. Not that we will die in a conventional sense, but that at the Rapture Jesus will take our souls and exchange our old bodies for a perfect eternal body all at the same moment.

Going into this Chapter I want to be completely transparent. I do not know which one of these things will occur, or if another option like spontaneous combustion could be true (I’m only mostly joking). But, I can actually see evidence for at least two options in Scripture. Now, the reason I want to include this Chapter in this book is to be responsible when it comes to the Word of God, and to leave behind a resource for those who are left behind after the Rapture.

If the Rapture occurs and we all disappear—great!

But, if the Rapture occurs and it looks like a pandemic or other weird or strange sudden massive deaths of believers, or even something totally different, I want those left behind to know that this was indeed the event known as “The Rapture of the Church” and not “Mother Earth” protecting herself or a pandemic, or a new weapon, or whatever.

Can You Imagine?

I can just imagine the lies that will be told no matter what happens to all of us Christians. Those lies will be epic. It was aliens! It was disease! It was… fill in the blank. No matter what happens I want those reading this book during the Tribulation to know that there is the possibility of our bodies being left behind or disappearing or who knows, and they shouldn’t believe the lies being told in response.

Disappearing Act

First, let’s look at the possibility of all believers disappearing at the event known as The Rapture of the Church. Like I said, this is what I had always believed, and there is Scripture to support it. In the first section of this book I went through all the verses that had the word “Harpazo” in them. One of those such verses had to do with the story of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch. Philip witness to him, baptizes him, and then Philip is “Harpazoed” the same word as Rapture, nineteen miles away from where he baptized the new convert. Acts 8:39 states, “And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip.”
